『サンダーバード』『キャプテンスカーレット』などのスーパーマリオネーションの生みの親ジェリー・アンダーソンが、『謎の円 盤UFO』に続いて製作したSFライブアクション『スペース1999』。主演は、『スパイ大作戦』から おしどり夫婦であったマーティン・ランドとバーバラ・ペインを迎え、『逃亡者』のバリー・モース などベテランが脇を固める。月面基地で起こった爆発事故により月が軌道を外れて宇宙空間に飛び出 し、月面基地、ムーンベース・アルファの隊員たちは月とともに宇宙を放浪。さまざまな危険に遭遇 しながらこれを解決していく・・・。シーズン1は、1974年から75年にかけて放送。音楽は、ジェ リー・アンダーソン作品には欠かせないバリー・グレイが担当。シーズン2は、1976年~77年にかけ て放送。音楽は、バリー・グレイにかわってデレク・ワズワースが担当。奇想天外なストーリーや登 場する宇宙船も魅力的だが、臨場感のある音楽もファンの心を掴む。今回、初めてシーズン2の音楽が CD化となり、『スペース1999』の魅力が十分に楽しめる内容になっている。
